STRING ART KITS

     You don't have to be a math wizard to enjoy sewing geometric patterns with needle and thread. They're a fun craft project -- just follow the directions to make beautiful, colorful design.     
   For educators, these FIVE kits can be a wonderful teaching enrichment for a variety of math lessons including pattern and sequence recognition, angle measurement, basic geometric vocabulary, constructions, identification of coordinates, and finding slope and x,y intercepts (see the 4Q kit).
     They also help develop hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and the ability to follow directions.
     While each kit comes with only 15 cards and directions for 15 designs, there are always extra supplies -- cards, thread, twine, needles, giant push pins -- so the project can be shared with as many as you want.
     The 5 kits range in difficulty from easy enough for 1st graders through fun enough for adults.

Card T Kit
Sewing Up Math Exclusive

Triangle designs are based on an equilateral triangles.
     Comes with directions for 15 designs, enough twine (1 spool each orange, pink, green and yellow) to sew all 15 cards, one large eye tapestry needle and one giant push pin.
     Also includes directions on how to turn the finished cards into tetrahedra, octahedra or icosahedra.

Card 4Q Kit
Sewing Up Math Exclusive

Square Designs pattern cards are based on all four quadrants of a co-ordinate plane. Sewing points are located by using positive and negative ordered pairs. Sewn patterns are identical to those in the Card S kit.
     Comes with directions for 15 designs, 6 bobbins of thread (1 each red, sun gold, orange, pink, green and yellow), one crewel needle.
     Includes worksheets for each design to practice using linear equations to find slope and x,y intercepts

Card C Kit  Circle Designs pattern cards are based on 2 concentric circles and their radii. Comes with directions for 15 designs, 6 bobbins of thread (1 each red, sun gold, orange, pink, green and yellow), one crewel needle. (grade 3+) 

Card H Kit   Hexagon Designs pattern cards are based on a hexagon and its diagonals. Comes with directions for 15 designs, 6 bobbins of thread (1 each red, sun gold, orange, pink, green and yellow), one crewel needle. (grade 4+)

Card S Kit   Square Designs pattern cards are based on the first quadrant of a co-ordinate plane and sewing points are located by using ordered pairs. Comes with directions for 15 designs, 6 bobbins of thread (1 each red, sun gold, orange, pink, green and yellow),  one crewel needle.
